My name is Michael Portillo, and I'm from Orange County, California. I've spent the past few years learning how credit really works, how it's calculated, what impacts your score, and how to turn it into a tool instead of a burden.
My first client in credit repair was myself. In my early 20s, I had a credit score in the 500s and decided to learn everything I could about rebuilding it. Through research and persistence, I discovered errors on my own report that were hurting my score and learned how to fix them the right way.
That's when I realized something bigger. Over 34 percent of people in the US have credit report errors that limit their financial opportunities. Since then, I've helped friends, family, and clients rebuild their credit and regain their confidence.
What drives me is knowing that better credit means more freedom—the freedom to buy a home, get approved for a car, start a business, or simply feel confident again.

A credit score is a number that represents your financial trustworthiness. Most lenders use your credit score, which ranges from 300 to 850. The higher your score, the lower the risk you appear to lenders, meaning better approval odds and lower interest rates.
Your credit score is influenced by several key factors. The most important is your payment history, which makes up 35 percent of your score and reflects whether you pay bills on time.
Credit utilization, or how much of your available credit you use, accounts for 30 percent. The length of your credit history contributes 15 percent, with longer histories showing more stability. New credit inquiries make up 10 percent and can temporarily lower your score.
The remaining 10 percent comes from your credit mix, which includes the variety of credit types you use, such as credit cards, loans, or lines of credit.

Good Credit
Credit plays a major role in your financial life. Good credit can open doors to better loan terms, lower interest rates, higher credit limits, and even improved job and housing opportunities. It provides peace of mind and the freedom to make choices without financial stress.
On the other hand, poor credit can lead to loan or apartment denials, higher deposits, and limited access to affordable financing options, often creating unnecessary stress and financial pressure.
